Balustrades measured, fixed and signed off correctly

Open deck, stair and pool edges need a balustrade that is measured, fixed and signed off properly. Clarity Glass installs custom glass and aluminium balustrades for homes across Dunedin and Otago, including frameless channel systems, 12 mm frameless glass with a top rail, Horizon semi-frameless posts and Panorama semi-frameless posts.

Taylor Fiddes has worked mainly with frameless glass throughout his glazing career, including glass balustrades and pool fencing in Australia, before starting Clarity Glass in 2019.

The right system depends on your structure, exposure, outlook and compliance requirements, so we check the site before ordering any materials. Contact us through the Contact form to discuss your site and arrange a free quote.

Balustrade systems for decks and pool areas

Every balustrade is custom made, so the system, fixings and final line can be matched to your space rather than chosen from standard sizes. Four systems cover most residential deck, stair, balcony and pool fencing: face or top-fixed frameless channel with glass in a low-profile channel; frameless 12 mm glass with a top rail; semi-frameless Horizon with powder-coated aluminium posts and glass infills; and semi-frameless Panorama with posts, glass infills and a top rail.

The fixing details affect both appearance and how the balustrade works with the structure. A replacement can be designed to suit your home, whether an older villa or newer build.

Related glass work like
frameless glass showers or custom mirrors can be discussed too.

PS3 sign-off and New Zealand standards

A balustrade is a safety barrier, not just a visual finish. Decks, stairs and pool areas need the right system for the drop, fixing surface and use.

Clarity Glass installs balustrades to New Zealand safety standards, and Taylor is a PS3 author who can sign off correct installation.

There are few PS3 authors for balustrades around Dunedin, so compliance stays connected to the installation work. PS1 and PS3 documentation is discussed during quoting where it applies. The installation method is checked before materials are ordered.

If older aluminium windows are also being upgraded,
retrofit double glazing can be quoted separately.

Quote, ordering and installation timing

Balustrade work is staged because the glass is measured after the aluminium is fixed in place. The process starts with a free quote for your deck, stairs, balcony, pool fencing, windbreak or spa area.

Once accepted, your deposit secures the materials, which are ordered and usually take about two weeks to arrive. The aluminium channel or posts are installed, then the glass is measured, manufactured and installed.

Most balustrades take three to four weeks from measure to installation, depending on material availability and the system. The quote sets out everything, so costs are clear beforehand. To discuss your site, please use the

Powder-coated aluminium and outdoor screening

Glass balustrades keep your view open and let light through a deck, stairwell or pool area. Timber blocks the outlook and needs repainting, whereas glass is cleaned like windows. Powder-coated aluminium fixings need no painting, and materials carry a 15-year warranty.

Clarity Glass also makes glass and aluminium privacy screens and windbreaks. Uses include screening a deck from neighbours, blocking views into front doors or living areas, hiding water tanks or wood stacks, sheltering spa areas, and adding weather protection near entrances.

Height and compliance are checked during planning, especially where decks sit over one metre. For damage to existing glass elsewhere, see
residential glass repairs.

Most glass balustrades run around three to four weeks from measure to final fit. Materials are ordered after your deposit and usually take about two weeks to arrive. Timing is confirmed once the space and system have been checked.

Frameless systems can use 12 mm glass with a top rail. The exact specification depends on the system, fixing method and site requirements. This is confirmed during measuring and reflected in the compliance documentation where required.

Pool fencing glass panels are installed to New Zealand safety standards. Taylor is a PS3 author and can sign off that the balustrade has been installed correctly where PS3 sign-off is required.

Frameless glass suits outlooks where your view matters and fewer visual interruptions are preferred. Horizon and Panorama aluminium post systems create a more defined frame while still using glass infills. The choice is worked through during quoting.

Balustrades carry a 15-year supplier warranty on powder coating and materials. The system is installed to New Zealand safety standards and Taylor can provide PS3 sign-off where required. Warranty details are confirmed during quoting.
