Frameless shower enclosures without the plastic base trims

Framed shower screens and acrylic liners can leave a renovated bathroom looking busier than it needs to. The plastic edges around the base also give soap scum and watermarks more places to collect.

Clarity Glass specialises in residential frameless glass work, including showers, balustrades, splashbacks and mirrors. Taylor has worked mainly in frameless glass throughout his glazing career, so his advice is based on how the screen will sit in the room, how the door will open and how the glass will be cleaned once it is in use.

Clearshield Shower Film for easier maintenance

Optional ClearShield Shower Film is available. Clarity Glass is the only business in Otago licensed to install this application. It reduces soap scum, water sitting on the glass and limescale etching.

Taylor is clear about its limitations: in a shower it lasts about three years, and the glass still needs regular cleaning.

ClearShield can be discussed during quoting, including whether it suits the way the shower will be used and cleaned. For other custom glass work in wet areas, see
kitchen splashbacks.

Layouts built around space and use

Your shower is made to suit the bathroom rather than pulled from a shelf. Options include sliding doors, hinged doors, fixed screens and open screens with no door where the room allows. Reeded or fluted glass can also be used.

For small or awkward bathrooms, sliding doors are often better because the door does not swing into other fixtures. In larger bathrooms, an open screen can reduce hardware, cleaning and cost.

Where a frameless shower forms part of a tiled setup, both tiling and glass affect the budget. Taylor will discuss the practical options before the quote is accepted. To discuss your bathroom, please

Glass types, privacy options and hardware finishes

Glass choices include clear glass for a standard finish, reeded or fluted glass for a textured finish, grey tinted glass for a darker tint, ultra-clear glass to reduce the green tinge in thicker glass, and Etch Light privacy glass for privacy while still allowing light through.

Hardware is supplied and installed to suit the design. Finishes include chrome, satin chrome, black, brushed brass, brushed nickel, gunmetal, brushed copper, white, and black chrome.

Many bathroom renovations also include a
custom mirror measured for the space. If your project includes a deck, stairway, or pool, glass balustrades can be discussed separately.

Quote, site measure, installation and warranty

For most shower enquiries, Taylor prefers a phone call, as layout, process and cost are easier to explain. A rough area size and your preferred hardware colour are enough to start a quote.

The process is straightforward. You send the area size and hardware colour, receive a quote, and if you accept, Taylor measures on site. The channel holding the glass is positioned, custom glass is ordered, and installation is booked, usually about a week later.

Standard shower work takes around five to ten working days. Pricing is clear, with no hidden costs.

Clarity Glass, local since 2019, backs all installations with a five-year warranty. Contact us via the

Standard shower work is generally around five to 10 working days. After the quote is accepted, Taylor measures on site, positions the channel, orders the glass from the supplier and returns for installation once it is ready.

Clarity Glass generally uses 10 mm glass for frameless shower enclosures. The thicker glass gives the screen a more solid feel than framed or acrylic alternatives and the frameless setup removes plastic base components that hold onto grime.

No. Frameless screens have fewer places for soap scum and watermarks to collect because there are no plastic trims around the base. A regular squeegee or wipe keeps the glass clearer.

Yes. Clear, reeded or fluted, grey tinted, ultra-clear and Etch Light privacy glass are available. Hardware finishes include chrome, satin chrome, black, brushed brass, brushed nickel, gunmetal, brushed copper, white and black chrome.
